Thought and Prayer for Monday, August 3, 2020

Goodness, yes, we all have doubts and worries and troubles. We all have uncertainties and insecurities. None of us are completely worry-free all of the time. The reason we are unsure and get anxious in life is because we don’t understand who we truly are. We are living a life like the world lives and trying to be something we are not. We are unsettled due to wanting to please others and fit in with the crowd. When we are sure about who we are and choose to follow the crowd, we will continue to be anxious about everything.

Putting on a front and pretending puts a strain on our lives. Trying to act like someone we are not just leads to stress and insecurity. However, when we know who we are, accept our shortcomings, know we are not perfect, and remember we are a child of God, then we will move past the worries, the doubts, and the insecurities of life.

We cannot be secure in life and stress-free until we realize we are a child of God and until we begin to follow His will doing what He created us to do. We cannot serve others with the skills and talents God gave us until we move past our desire to be like this world and we decide to be like Jesus.

1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (NIV)

John 8:12 “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” (NLT)

1. Write how you may be living like the world desires you to live.
2. List what God tells you about how to live life.
3. Know you are a child of God and seek Him for direction in your life.
4. Turn from the ways of the world and put your faith and trust in God.

Dear Lord, thank You for reminding us in Your word that we are Your children. Thank You for Your promises to us. Thank You for Your blessings. Help us to stop acting like the world so we can do Your will. We know we are anxious only because we are attempting to conform to the world rather than choosing to transform into who You want us to be. You created us for a unique purpose in life. Show us what our purpose is so we can live the lives You created us to have.

When we remember we are children of God and His prized possession, we will not worry at all about anything of this world.

James 1:18 “He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.” (NLT)

When we remember we are children of God and we do what is right, our worries and anxiety will melt away.

Philippians 2:15b “Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.” (NLT)

When we remember we are heirs to the Kingdom of God, we will have peace and comfort knowing we have all we need.

Galatians 3:29 “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.” (NLT)
