Thought and Prayer for Sunday, July 26, 2020

Sunday, July 26, 2020

In this crazy world, we really don’t know who to trust. We hear so many things people believe is truth yet we find out later it was not true at all. We surely can’t trust what we hear from the media and others. When we don’t have that feeling of trust we will keep searching for the truth. We will keep searching for something or someone to trust in because we want a feeling of peace and security that only truth can give us. We will keep running until we realize who we can truly trust in.

Jonah, in the Bible, didn’t trust what God was telling Him to do so he ran. If Jonah would have trusted in the Lord and not ran from the work God called him to do, he wouldn’t have ended up in the belly of a whale. What is God calling us to do? Where are we running to instead? What is our whale where we are trapped because we aren’t following God’s will? It time to trust God and do what He is calling us to do. When we choose to follow and trust God, we will be blessed and we will find peace and security.

Jonah 2:7 “As my life was slipping away, I remembered the Lord. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.” (NLT)

1. Write who or what has let you down in life.
2. List ways you have ran from what God has called you to do.
3. Know you can only trust in God and His word for peace.
4. Seek His word and search for His truth that will guide you securely through life.

Dear Lord, forgive us for searching everywhere in this world for someone or something to trust in. Forgive us for not listening to You or reading Your word. We know Your word is truth and we can find what You are calling us to do in Your word. We know Your truths are for our good. We know we can receive peace and security when we read and trust in Your word. Remind us today to not lean on our own understanding but to lean on the truth of Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God knows what is best for us and we are to lean on His word which is truth that will give us true direction.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (NLT)

Psalm 125:1 “Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.” (NLT)

We are to commit all we do to God and trust in only Him for help and direction.

Psalm 37:5 “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” (NLT)
