July 18, 2020 WHEN OUR POWER IS OUT
We all know how it feels when our power is out. We can’t do what we need to do around the house. We try to find other things to do until the power comes back on. When the power is out for a while, it gets very hot or very cold in the house and things in our freezer and refrigerator go bad. We are helpless and left in the hands of those who know how to restore our power so we can get back to our normal living.
What about our internal power? Does our power ever go out? Do we feel unplugged at times and like we just have nothing left in us? It happens. We feel drained and powerless about many things that are simply out of our control. The great thing about feeling like we are powerless is we don’t have to wait. We can go to God. He can give us the power and the strength we need to carry on.
Real power doesn’t come from inside us. The kind of power we need comes from God. For when we are weak, He is strong. When we have difficulties, go through hard times, or feel like there is no way out, God’s grace is all we need. In fact, when we are weak, God’s power works best. When our power is out, we can quickly connect to God. His power works best in our weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (NLT)
1. Write what you do when your power is out.
2. List ways you can quickly connect to God.
3. Know His power works best in your weakness.
4. Know the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.
Dear Lord, there are so many times when we are weak. There are times when we are weak because we are distracted by the things of the world. There are times when we are weak because we are physically tired or sick. There are times when we are weak because we are submitting to temptations that cause self-inflicted heartaches and pain. Help us, Lord, to come to You each time we are weak so You can give us what we need to be strong for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Wisdom from God will give us the power we need to live a right life for Him.
Proverbs 24:5 “The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.” (NLT)
Ephesians 1:19-20 “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” (NLT)
2 Peter 1:3 “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.” (NLT)
Romans 15:13 “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)
1 Corinthians 1:24 “But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (NLT)
