God’s Servant. July 17 2020
“ Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come to you. “. Romans 1:10
I met Barbara Youderian in the year 2000 in Ecuador. This is her story. Barbara graduated from high school and wondered, “ Should I serve God? “ Her will was sealed when she awoke at 2.00 am with an impression to read the above verse Romans 1:10. She did read it and was struck by the part that said, “ I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God. She said that she might have taken the text out of context but she knew God was speaking to her. Her first journey was to take her to a hill mission in Kentucky. She loved working with the children there and she surrendered her life to God that summer. She then went off to Northwestern University in Minneapolis. It was there that she met Roger Youderian and soon after she became Mrs Barbara Youderian. After finishing school they joined Avant Ministries and were led to work with the Indians in Ecuador South America. Roger led a fierce head-hunter to faith in Christ Jesus and his love for these people grew tremendously. Roger was one of the five missionaries martyred for their faith as they tried to bring the gospel message to the Acura Indian tribe deep in the jungle. Although he was not as famous as Jim Eliot or Nate Saint he was just as important in God’s eyes. The story does not end there.Babara said my husband vision is my vision and she along with Elizabeth Elliott remained in Ecuador and continued on in their husbands work. Their example brought that tribe to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They stopped being head hunters and changed their names from Acura’s to Waronni. Barbara stayed in Ecuador from 1952 to 1990 and all but 3 years she was a widow. God had given her a prosperous journey. It may not have been what she expected but she was faithful in all things. She says now I am waiting for that future prosperous journey. The glorious journey with Jesus.
Father God thank you for the lives of Roger and Barbara Youderian who gave themselves to you. You put them on a journey to Ecuador where the results of their work were awesome. Roger only lived three years before you took Him home but he planted the seed that Barbara and others could use to bring an entire tribe of head-hunters into Your Kingdom. We know you greeted them with these words, “ done good and faithful servants.” May I be greeted in the same way some day when my journey here on earth is finished.
