July 16, 2020 CHOOSE WISDOM

There is a difference between being smart and being wise. There are those who learn a great deal by studying books and researching. They know how things work, who invented what and even the right words to say. They have experience and knowledge which makes them smart; however, they may not always be wise. Wisdom means making right decisions through thorough thinking (discernment), Wisdom means planning our next steps carefully and being disciplined to take the right action.

However, without wisdom from God, even the smartest will not have true knowledge. Even the wisest person in the world cannot be wise without God’s word. Wisdom comes from fearing God and obeying Him. When we do that, we will know what He wants us to do to make a difference. When we live according to God’s word, we will be wise according to His standards and that is what truly matters.

SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you seek to be wise.
2. List what the Bible say about wisdom.
3. Know you are to seek God to have true wisdom.
4. Get into His word and choose to be wise according to His standards.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are far from wise according to Your word. We get side-tracked. We get emotional. We get bent out of shape. We know we could definitely learn more from You and practice wisdom with more zest in our lives. Help us to seek You and Your word to help us to grow in wisdom. Thank You, Lord, for the direction You are going to take us and the help You are going to give us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 3:17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.” (CSB)

Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (NLT)

Psalm 111:10 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.” (NLT)

Ephesians 1:17 “I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” (CSB)

FOCUS:
