July 14, 2020 LASTING CHANGE

A positive and lasting change in life can do great things for us and others. When we remove our bad habits and replace them with good ones, we reap many rewards. Some say they were successful replacing bad habits with good ones due to will power. Others may say they used meditation. There are many reasons and ways we can move from our bad habits and choose to create new and better ones.

If we want a lasting change, spiritually, there are positive steps we can take as well. God’s word gives us direction and instruction on what positive changes we can make to grow spiritually and to have a closer walk with Him. His promises are ours to remember and meditate on. His stories are ours to learn from. His words are our guide to read, study, memorize and meditate on. Lasting change comes from God’s power and not our own. His word can break us free from any sin that is keeping us from doing right. He even tells us in His word that He gives us everything we need to live a godly life. And when we improve our spiritual lives with God, all other areas of our lives will improve as well.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Peter 1:3-4 “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what change you need to make in life.
2. List what you have tried already.
3. Choose to follow God’s plan.
4. Get into His word, study it, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know when we follow and obey You, we have all we need to make positive and lasting changes in our lives. Help us to remember Your word is our light to follow day in and day out. Remind us that we don’t need self-help books, gurus, medicines or anything from this world to break bad habits. We simply need You. Help us, Lord, to break the bad habits and replace them with good one. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to study God’s word, meditate on it and put it into action.

Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (NLT)

We no longer have to follow the ways of the world and continue in bad habits. God has given us His freedom to live His way.

Romans 6:14 “Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.” (NLT)

We are to follow the word of God in all we do if we want lasting change in our lives.

Proverbs 16:9 “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” (NLT)
