July 10, 2020 WHY COMPLAIN?
It is so hard to not complain about things. We hear people complaining on a regular basis when we watch television or get on social media. We witness actions of those who are not happy with the way things are. They don’t speak out their complaints but they take action by hurting others or destroying property. Complaining seems to be the norm in life but it really and truly doesn’t solve anything.
As believers, we are told by God to do all things without complaining. He even says we aren’t to argue with others as well. So if we want to be heard, what do we do? If complaining doesn’t work, what will? Good questions. God has an answer to these questions in His word. We are live a godly life. The instructions for a godly life are everywhere in the Bible. When we begin reading and praying, God will tell us what to do instead of complaining.
Complaining shows selfishness. Things are not what we want them to be so we complain. Complaining shows we don’t believe God is in control. We are annoyed with the way things are going and we aren’t trusting in God. Complaining causes others to stumble. When they hear us complain, we are sending them the wrong message about trusting God. There are more negative reasons to complain than positive ones. Let’s choose to be a positive light in the lives of others by not complaining.
Philippians 2:14-15 “Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.” (NLT)
1. Write what you may complain about.
2. List ways you can stop complaining.
3. Remember complaining does no good.
4. Get into God’s word and ask Him to help you not complain.
Lord, we are to be a godly example to others. Help us remember our words and our actions are being watched by those who don’t know You. Remind us not to complain but simply share Your word. Your word is truth and when we obey it and share it, we are doing Your will. Help us to have the right mindset so we move past what is wrong, not complain but remember You are in control. We put our trust in You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We are to stand guard against any thoughts that would cause us to grumble or complain.
Hebrews 12:15b “Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (NLT)
We are to be sure we don’t speak against others so we are living in obedience to God.
James 4:11 “Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.” (NLT)
We are to be patient with others and not complain remembering we all have our shortfalls.
James 5:8-9a “You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged.” (NLT)
