I'm still here!

Tuesday, July 07, 2020

I have to admit that I've struggled with maintaining my weight this year. My goal has been to maintain plus or minus 3% of a center weight of 132 lbs. I did it for 2 years but started to struggle at the end of 2019. I did okay in January of 2020 but by February, many of my weigh ins were at 136 lbs or above. That doesn't sound too bad except that trending UP is not how you maintain your weight! I'd get back on the horse only to fall off again. lol From Feb thru June, I was only at 136 or below 15% of the time. I can't blame it on the pandemic either because I was struggling before that.

I have never been one to go on a particular 'diet' but rather have just eaten all things in moderation. Two good habits I have kept up have been exercise and tracking my food each day...even if I tracked it all at the end of the day. Those two things are probably the only reason I haven't completely left the rails!

At the beginning of LAST week, I decided to try something different. I started the keto diet. One thing I noticed right away is not only was I losing weight but I wasn't as hungry as before. Two good things! I'm not saying that I'll eat this way forever but for now, it has enabled me to feel more in control of what goes into my mouth and take off a few pounds and that's never a bad thing! In July, five of my six weigh-ins have been at or below 136 so that's progress! One day at a time! emoticon emoticon

I've been eating mostly whole food plant base, and that's working for me.

You have to do what works for you, regardless of what others say. I’m trying to do a lower carb way of eating too. I can’t do the actual Keto but something similar. On my plan, I’m allowed to eat fruits and some starchy veggies.

So good to hear from you! Wondered where you were an dhow you are doing. You are doing great! It can be hard to maintain as it is a delicate balance and you are doing just what you need to be doing.

Tracking for me is so important and even if I really go over I track it. My body knows what I ate whether I track it or not and looking back over the prior week tells me exactly why my weight is where it is.

Personally the pandemic has made it much harder for me to maintain. While I am maintaining it seems like more of a struggle as day as after day is pretty much the same. Gym not open and even when it does open doubt I'll be back for quite a while.

Hope the keto gives you the jump start you want right now. Maybe that is just what you need. Looking forward to hearing from you and your continued progress.

Glad you're continuing to work the things that support your process and open to new possibilities.

Tracking (even after the fact) supports my process as well.

I've read in a number of different places that for some of us it is necessary to decrease our carbohydrate intake as we age. Our bodies can become less efficient carb processors. That' is certainly the case for me!

I learned that the sweet spot for me seems to be around 30% of my total nutritional intake as far as carbohydrates go. The macronutrient that gets the lion's share of the calories goes to fats. And, I have never had an issue with my lipid panel results ... ever. But, I eat healthy fats. I do not eat large quantities of saturated fats, trans fats or deep-fried foods. It's things like fatty cold-water fish (salmon and trout being my faves), nuts (macadamias are my faves), avocado, 100% grass-fed & 100% grass-finished beef, whole eggs from pastured chickens, olives, nut butters (almond primarily ... although, I also like tahini), and oils (coconut, olive, avocado primarily).

Happy to hear the keto diet is supporting you.

I am glad you are back So welcome!! 😊 ....I have been doing keto for at least 2 years and I am sure I will never go back to my formal way of eating. For 1 thing I never ever wake up starving like I used to occasionally do Before keto. There are a lot of really delicious meals and recipes out there. πŸ‘ .....And If you are interested I can recommend a couple of cook books that I got that have wonderful recipes in them. The author is carolyn with a C. Last name is Ketchum. I started with easy keto dinners and ordered it online. I also make all of our own keto rolls which I got the recipe from the diet doctor online. If any of these interest you and you have more questions don't hesitate to ask me and I will help all I can. Another thing I love about keto is that the food is so flavorable! πŸ˜‹.... There is also 1 keto team that I really like if you're interested in that. There are quite a few Spark members doing keto and of course it always helps to plug in with others doing the same. .....Anyway I wish you the best and don't worry because lbs will come off!!! πŸ‘ ....Talk more later!
