Thought and Prayer for Tuesday, July 7, 2020

Tuesday, July 07, 2020

We see so many people pushing for attention in this world. Some people posts outlandish things on social media. Others act out in negative ways. Then there are those who constantly brag about their lives in an attempt to impress others. Striving to get attention and to be recognized using these methods isn’t at all what will get us noticed in a positive light. Only one thing can do that. And that is service.

When we seek to help others and give unselfishly to them, then we will be remembered. Of course, we should not serve with the intention of getting noticed…it should come from our hearts. When we pray and ask God to give us a serving heart, He will help and show us what we can do to help those in need.

There are many ways to serve and help others even during this unique times. We can serve by keeping our mouths shut and listening to others. Some just want to be heard. We could take time to do something they enjoy. We can give them something they need without expecting anything in return.

God doesn’t want us to attempt to jump to the head of the line to get noticed. He wants us to humbly serve and He promises to reward us with His blessings rather than the worldly fame that lasts only for a moment.

Romans 12:3 “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” (NLT)

1. Write what you tend to do for attention.
2. List how you can start serving others instead.
3. Stop focusing on wanting others to notice you.
4. Instead focus on ways to help others with what they need.

Dear Lord, help us to not be arrogant and attempt to be noticed in all we do. We want to put You first, others second, and ourselves last. Show us ways we can focus on helping others rather than desiring attention on ourselves. We want to serve You and give to others as You call us to do. Thank You for Your promises to those who obey You. We are so grateful for Your guiding word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God will reward those who humble themselves before Him and help others.

Luke 14:11 “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (NLT)

Proverbs 19:17 “Caring for the poor is lending to the Lord, and you will be well repaid.” (CEV)

Proverbs 25:6-7 “Don’t demand an audience with the king or push for a place among the great. It’s better to wait for an invitation to the head table than to be sent away in public disgrace.” (NLT)

God shows favor to those who are humble and give to the poor.

Proverbs 3:34 “He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.” (NIV)
