Commit Your Eyes. July 04 2020.
“ The adulteress house is the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death.” Proverbs 7:27
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
In the Old Testament a covenant was entered into as a guarantee of future benefits and protection. Consider the covenant that Job made, “ I have made a covenant with my eyes ; why then should I look upon a young woman?” Job 31:1 That was a man speaking , but the same gender- neutral idea is in Psalm 119:37, “ Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.” The time to make a covenant with your eyes is in a time of reflection and sober commitment. The father. In Proverbs warned his son to consider the dangers and damages associated with yielding to sexual temptation. Proverbs 7:1-7 . As parents tell their children about all of life, an important lesson they might share is that it is easier to stay out of trouble, then it is to get out trouble. And the way to avoid the trouble that comes from sexual immorality is to make a covenant God and not go there. And a covenant with your eyes, in our visual world, is a good place to start. Commit your eyes to God in prayer, that they may look upon and desire only that which is good and godly.
“ No sinful act Descartes the body like fornication and sexual abuse.” R C H Lenski
To keep the Lord’s commands is the best protection against promiscuity and relational ruin. Faithfulness to the Word spawns faithfulness in the heart. Affairs never begin in the bedroom but in the mind. The heart is the doorway to one’s mind and life and the adulterer uses enticing words and especially flattery to push it wide open. Lust usually refers to an insatiable hunger for pleasure, profit, power, prestige, or sex. It is a sinful craving called,” fleshly lusts.” Healthy sexual desire is rooted in God, where as lust is self cantered and insensitive to the needs of others. Christians are called to distance themselves from “ fleshly lusts.” In effect ostracizing these things that cause us to sin. At the same time our conduct should be so loving and full of integrity, that it can win over unbelievers by the evidence of Christ’s work in our lives. To permit anything to enter one’s body outside of the boundaries God has established becomes a form of idolatry that defies the temple of the Holy Spirit.
