Today turned into a super busy but fun day for me. I knew I needed to go to the grocery stores for supplies but I also decided to check out a few estate sales in my area early (8am!) this morning. I had a good friend go with me since they also needed groceries and they also enjoy estate and garage sales. Although I didn’t find anything at the estate sales, it was still fun to look and ultimately it was a successful day. I got a lot of fitness steps in!
After wandering around the estate sales, we planned to head off to the stores but on the way, we passed one of my favorite parks, and still being early at 9am AND with enough clouds at that hour, we stopped and got in an hour’s hike before the sun got too strong and the temperatures too hot.
I think we finished at the perfect time because the sun was starting to come out from behind the clouds and I was starting to wilt.
Then we spent another hour shopping around several grocery stores. I was happy to find everything on my list. I got back home after 1pm. First I cleaned and put my groceries away and fixed myself a small healthy lunch. After a rest period to allow my stomach to digest, I then did 70 minutes of weight training and calisthenics, paying attention to all the recent pointers I picked up. I was hot and tired after that! I did some more things around the house and finally got showered and ready to rest the remainder of the day.
I’ve been noticing for a while how my habits and desires are changing. I admit for a long time almost everything else came before fitness for myself, ranging from work to housecleaning or some project, and on and on. There were times when I’d plan to go for a walk or workout but when that time came, it was always “I better finish this or that or something else” and then I never got to the workout. When I finally reached a point where I realized I HAD to change what I was doing, and I BELIEVED it was important, then came the challenge of retraining my habits.
That’s a huge part of what these 100 day journeys have been for me… learning new habits, retraining old habits and improving myself and my health in the process.
At this point, I still have a lot of work to do and as I mentioned earlier this week, I am approaching my workouts differently now – scheduling them, putting enough oomph into them, lifting weights more slowly, paying attention to my muscles and increasing my sets, reps and weights. My eating is not perfect but I am largely eating better and healthier. I am improving on sticking to my planned portions. I think this is the way I’ve had to do this – transforming my habits so that I can transform ME.
Wishing you all a wonderful evening and a great weekend! Also - Happy 4th of July!!
