July 2, 2020 WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW

We have a scarcity in this world of something that is greatly needed. It is missing in many homes and communities. It isn’t seen too much on the news or social media. There something in this world that can develop and grow if we choose to start practicing it more and more in our homes, at work, in the community and in our lives. When we share this thing with others, it will grow and spread throughout the world.

It is love. Love is what we need. It is what this world needs. There are many songs about love that give us some hope about finding good relationships or helping others; however, the love we are really missing is God’s love. That is what the world needs now. And it starts within us. Jesus tells us what we need is love. He tells us love is the greatest of God’s commandments. We are to love God with all our hearts and we are to love others as we love ourselves. If we need a reminder of what love truly is we can go to 1 Corinthians 13 for the qualities shown in love. However, God is love and when we have God in our hearts, we will exude His love to others.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 22:37-39 “Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (NLT)

1 John 4:8, 16b “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love…God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you show love to God.
2. List ways you show love to others.
3. Remember your actions show others how much you care.
4. Take time to better know God and His love and share it with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for Your love that is so complete and perfect. You love us so much that You sent Jesus to die for our sins. Your love is greater than what we can understand. However, the more we get into Your word and the more we spend time with You, the more we will know You and experience Your love. Lord, we pray You will show us Your love and allow Your love to be seen by others through us. We want to love You and others as You love us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We could do great things in life but if we didn’t love others, we really didn’t do much at all.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 “If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” (NLT)

We are to love one another as Jesus loves us.

John 13:34-35 “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (NLT)

The love we have for others is shown in our actions.

FOCUS:
Romans 12:9 “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.” (NLT)
