Love My Garden

Wednesday, July 01, 2020

The tomatoes are looking gorgeous, the bush beans are producing, and we have a steady supply of black berries 😊 I love nurturing these wonderful plants and watching them grow. I'll need to build onto the Cucumber trellis soon because the plants are climbing like mad. The melon patch is coming along nicely, a bit weedy, but easy enough to manage. I've plucked some of the early squash blossoms in our 3 Sisters Patch to encourage stronger root growth. It wouldn't do to have them spend energy blooming and fruiting too soon and not be able to survive because the roots haven't settled in. Is there a larger lesson? Obviously. Likewise I lovingly prune away weak or damaged leaves on the tomatoes to ensure energy is spent growing the fruit. As the vines divide, I carefully snip away excess to encourage growth of the strongest parts. I actually caught myself scolding one plant, "Why do you keep trying to spread? You are already enough!" I should probably take my own advice. I am already enough. My energy is best spent growing my strengths. Spreading myself too thin wastes energy and prevents me from seeing the full fruits of my labor.
