July 1, 2020 WHO WE FOLLOW

Social media is exploding. People are online following the famous people to see what they are eating, wearing, and doing. Others follow friends and belong to online groups to ensure they are keeping up with the latest trends and fads. Following others online is the thing to do to stay connected with what is going on in the world. The problem with following others online or anywhere is that we may quickly get led astray.

That is why we need to follow only God. A disciple is one who follows. A disciple is one who believes in the one he follows. A disciple is ready to learn and eager to obey. As believers, our job is to be a disciple for Christ. We are to follow Him and live for Him. We are to obey God as Jesus did. We are to devote ourselves to the word of God and follow it. Others should see our lives as examples of Christ’s life.

1 Peter 2:12 “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.” (NLT)

1. Write who you follow on social media.
2. List what things you learn from them.
3. Be cautious of where their actions and words could lead you.
4. Decide now to follow only Christ.

Dear Lord, there are so many opportunities to follow others. We sometimes can get too wrapped up in what others are doing that we forget we are supposed to be following You. Help us to remember You will give us all we need when we choose to follow You. We want to live our lives being disciples for Christ sharing Your word and living a godly example to others so we can point them to You. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are to imitate God in all we do living as an example of Christ.

Ephesians 5:1-2 “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (NLT)

We are to live right lives for God so we shine brightly in this evil world giving God all the glory.

Philippians 2:15b “Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.” (NLT)

We are to let the world see our good deeds so we can point them to Christ.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (NLT)
