June 29, 2020 WHY OBEY THE RULES?
As children, we were told how important it was that we obey our parents and other adults. We were told to obey them because it was the respectful thing to do and it was to help us from getting hurt. We didn’t really understand that until we got older and had children of our own. Most rules and laws are made for a reason. That is to keep order, structure, and safety to all people. Even as adults, when we don’t obey, terrible consequences can happen.
From Genesis to Revelation, we can read about what God wants us to do. He tells us obedience is what He wants from us. He is a god of order and structure. He only wants what is best for us. We can only obey Him if we know Him and read His word. We can’t do what He wants us to do if we don’t have a right relationship with Him. People who are saved want to obey God. Obedience isn’t required to be saved; however, when we are saved we will want to obey Him. We obey God because we love Him.
John 14:21 “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” (NLT)
1. Write about things God wants you to do.
2. List what you do in obedience to God.
3. Remember obedience to God shows you love Him.
4. Dig deeper into God’s word and live to obey only Him.
Dear Lord, we know we can sometimes get distracted by the ways of the world. We sometimes get pulled into doing things that are not in line with Your will. Help us, we pray, to read Your word and know Your will for our lives. We want to be obedient to only You. We know You love us and have our best interest in mind. You tell us in Psalm 119:105 Your word is lamp to guide our feet and a light for our paths. Help us to remember You love us and Your will is the best guidance for our lives. We want to obey only You. Give us the strength, desire, and power to live an obedient life to Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God tells us to carefully obey His laws.
Leviticus 18:4 “You must obey all my regulations and be careful to obey my decrees, for I am the Lord your God.” (NLT)
We are not to alter God’s commands in any way. His truths never change and should not be altered.
Deuteronomy 4:2 “Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.” (NLT)
God tells us what to do in His word. We are to read it daily and live in obedience to only Him.
Micah 6:8 “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (NLT)
