Out of town-maintained my weight!!

Email sent to Alice:

It sounds like you are doing well. My husband and I were actually in Tulsa this weekend for a quick trip to see our daughter before her finals this week. I did pretty well eating wise. I did have 2 diet drinks over the course of the weekend, but I got a medium instead of a giant one like I use to. I stepped on the scale today and I had not gained any weight. That is amazing because we ate out every meal. I did bring some snacks along like raisins and nuts, so I think that helped me ward off any strong hunger pains or cravings. I am beginning to feel more at home with this whole lifestyle change. It seems it consumes a lot of my thinking, but the upside is that at least now I am thinking about it before I make choices. Like you, I am not where I want to be but I am a lot closer than I once was. Baby steps, baby steps. Rome (or my weight gain) was not built in a day. You're doing great, Alice!

While we were in Tulsa, we went to a free movie night at the Filbrook Museum. It was a gorgeous place to visit. We didn't stay for the movie, but we sure did a lot of walking around and enjoying the gardens. My husband and I also wandered over to Utica Square on Saturday whiile our daughter was studying. Fun walking and shopping there. My husband is in a wheelchair, so it was a bit challenging finding a ramp he could go up to see other areas. However, we persevered and were able to enjoy our time. We also drove around later on and found the Rose Garden. Tulsa has tons of parks and things to do outside. I was very impressed. I guess all that walking around (plus I worked out on the hotel's elliptical machine) made a difference. I really thought I would be re-losing the 3-4 lbs. I gained over the weekend. Now, maybe I can continue to lose some "new" weight.

Here is a scripture that I thought of while reading your email: Philippians 1:6-Being confidant of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

To me, this means that God created our bodies and wants them to be healthy and He is going to help us get there for the rest of our lives. Losing excess weight and being healthy will allow us to minister to our families, church, neighbors,whomever. We will gain strength and confidance to do what God has given us to do.

Also, my life verse is Jeremiah 29:11-13 - -For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Isn't that really what life is about anyway? God knows the plans for our lives and He desires good things for us. He will help us when we call on Him.

OK, gotta run. I have an incomplete project in the backyard staring at me. I need to go finish it, so I can move on to the next thing. Have a great day. Blessings to you!
