The Vinedresser. June 22 2020

“ I am the true vine, My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit... he who abides in Me , and I in him bears much fruit.... By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be my disciples “John 15: 1-2,8. NKJV.

Recently I visited an orchard that had been neglected over time. What had once been a beautifully groomed twenty acre orchard was now a jumble of unhealthy trees, the result of neglected pruning and cultivation.

Without pruning, wild roots spring up and sour small fruit slowly crowds out the good edible fruit. We all love the good fruit. The neglect of the trees even for a short time totally ruins the trees productivity. Also amazing is that with some attention , the trees could begin producing good fruit again.

This is why we need to allow the Father, our Vinedresser, to walk through the orchard of our lives , to prune out the wild branches, the sin in our lives. If done continually , it’s easy to brush offa new sinful sprout. Amazingly those wild sprouts on the trees grew more rapidly than the good branches, sucking up all the nutrition meant for the good fruit. Then it required so much more effort and work; cutting off the large branches, dragging them out of the orchard, and at times breaking some of the good branches.

We are that wild root stock. Christ grafted His heart into us. If we submit to His pruning, he keeps the sinful nature at bay, allowing us to bear much fruit. However when we resist His pruning, sin sprouts quickly making us unproductive..

Let’s daily allow our Father, to keep working in our lives until the day God gives us a new root stock, when He removes the sinful nature from us. Until that time, my desire is to abide in Christ, “ That His joy May be in me and that my joy May be made full.”

🙏. Father, prune me and make me productive for You. I trust You and love You. In Jesus name I pray.
