June 21, 2020 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

Every year, we acknowledge a “Random Acts of Kindness” week. The point is to be more aware of doing good things for others. It is a great way to pay it forward by doing something kind for others without expecting anything in return. Kindness is a good habit to act on every day. Rather than waiting for that one week in February, let’s set some goals to practice random acts of kindness every day.

As believers, we are called to be kind to one another. God mentions it all throughout the Bible. It is important enough to be one of the Fruits of the Spirit. It is part of the definition of love. It is something practiced by Jesus and His followers. Kindness is something we can give daily to others and it doesn’t cost us anything but our time. And it has been said we can waste time but we can’t waste kindness.

SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 3:12 “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to show kindness.
2. List ways you can practice kindness daily.
3. Remember God calls you to be kind to others.
4. Set goals to practice random acts of kindness each day.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know when we are kind to others we are doing what You call us to do. We have so many opportunities every day to show kindness to others. Help us to see those opportunities and act on them. You tell us in James 4:17 that it is a sin to know what we ought to do and not do it. Help us to turn from the sin of inaction and start taking action today practicing random acts of kindness to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 11:17 “Kindness is rewarded— but if you are cruel, you hurt yourself.” (CEV)

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (NLT)

1 Corinthians 13:4a “Love is patient and kind.” (NLT)

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Aesop

Because of God’s kindness, He shows mercy and love to us.

FOCUS:
Psalm 23:6 “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” (NLT)
