the first step

Saturday, June 20, 2020

I thought my first step was counting my calories. When that didn’t work, I thought my first step would be buying a treadmill. That didn’t work. I tried a bullet journal, bought a TRX suspension trainer, and got rid of all the snacks in my house. Turns out, my first step was therapy. It’s been amazing and I already feel so much better mentally. Right now, I’ve been going weekly. It’s a relief to know I have those appointments to look forward to. In just two sessions she’s already pointed out patterns and parallels I never saw on my own. She’s giving me helpful advice and been a great sounding board. I realize now, I was hoping that fixing my body would give me the peace that therapy has...but it doesn’t work that way. And since therapy, I’ve found more confidence in my body now that I no longer perceive my body as something I have to fix when it’s been mental health all along. For those struggling, I hope my story helps and you can be brave enough to try therapy.

I'm so happy for you. Many times the body issues are symptoms of deeper mind issues, not really problems in themselves. Once you begin to address the real problem, the other becomes much easier to fix.

I wish you all the best.
