June 10, 2020 A SELF-SERVING LIFE
We see so many people wanting to make a difference in the world for the wrong reasons. With social media, we see people doing outlandish things just for followers and more likes. People crave attention and, for some, social media is their god. They do more and more things to get people to watch them so they will be famous and rich. However, attention from others is only temporary. Soon they move on to the next new thing. We quickly learn that living a self-serving life is not at all fulfilling. Not at all.
Humility is what we need. When we are humble, we will be living a fulfilling life. God will bless us with grace when we are humble. Humility doesn’t mean we think less of ourselves. It means we think of ourselves less. When we are humble, we are putting the needs of others first. When we seek to add value to those around us, God will supply all our needs with His grace. There are many opportunities to serve in this world. Let’s put the needs of others first and humble ourselves before God.
James 4:6-7a “And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ So humble yourselves before God.” (NLT)
1. Write about what God says regarding humility.
2. List ways you can humble yourself before God.
3. Know God will give grace to the humble.
4. Decide to think of yourself less and to think of others more.
Dear Lord, we are nothing without You. You gave us breathe and life. You gave us resources on this earth to use to live. All we have is from You. It is by Your grace we are saved. You have many blessings for us if we will only follow You. You promise when we are humble, You will lift us up. Thank You, Lord, for Your blessings and Your love. Remind us in all we do today to be humble. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we relate to one another, we are to put the needs of others first.
1 Peter 5:5b “And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another” (NLT)
When we humble ourselves before God, we are putting what He wants for our lives above what we want. When we do this, He will lift us up.
Matthew 23:12 “But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (NLT)
Putting others first in our lives will bring many blessings for all and God will give grace to us as we humble ourselves before Him.
Matthew 5:5 “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.” (NLT)
