Mixing it Up!

Hey there!

I hope that everyone is doing well, staying safe, and keeping your healthy habits in check!

I've actually been working from home, since March 13th 2020. Since I do not have to commute my usual 1 hour each way to work, it gives me some free time for exercise routines in the morning, which I love!!!!

I try to get outside and walk/jog in my hilly neighborhood at least once a week. But, since we're social distancing I don't like doing it too often. At least where I live, it's not as crowded as some other locations closer to Los Angeles. I live in a quieter suburb and feel fortunate.
I'm not one to really like crowds anyway and prefer to just stay home when possible.

So... over the past month or so I've discovered that I really like Zumba! One time I took a class a few years ago at my local gym, and I felt so awkward and clumsy. I am not a coordinated person at all! I kind of laughed my way through the class and tried to hide in the back. But I kind of liked the energy and style it had. I figure that if I am not really coordinated, maybe I should try practicing this at home? And then I forgot about it... lol.

But now, since we are at home most of the time, I decided to try it again. I like it!! I found some YouTube videos for free, after my search for 'beginner Zumba'. My husband encourages me to keep at it, to help with agility, coordination and just plain learning some dance moves. The videos that I've been going to are just 10 minutes long so I do them over and over again.

I also have been doing Leslie Sansome walking videos afterwards, since the Zumba ones are only 10 minutes, which feels like a nice warmup. I encourage any of you reading this, to try this option for exercise, right in your own home!! If you have a Roku or something similar, you can stream the YouTube app and have it play on your TV screen.

I didn't think that I'd enjoy doing Zumba as much as I do! I think I'm ready now to find more challenging and longer Zumba classes and keep it going. I find that it makes me think more about how I move my body and that maybe someday I can actually dance too! haha.

I still feel awkward and mess up the rhythm sometimes, but I know that practice makes perfect! As long as it's fun- I'll keep adding this to my cross-training exercise routine.
