Contentment. May 23 2020.
“ I am not saying this because I am in need for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or want. I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13. NI V.
Can I really say with confidence, as Paul seems to, that I am content whatever life circumstances or whatever state I am in? Life brings many different states ,both physically and mentally. To be content in all those states seems to be difficult. The secret is in the verses above, that only through Jesus Christ can we find true contentment. As I mentioned a few days ago, personally I have experienced times of great need where we did not know how we could financially carry on. We also experienced years of blessings where God gave an abundance to us. We experienced poor health in our children, and very healthy and good times as well. I have learned to be content through Jesus Christ who gives His children strength so that we can do lol things. Sometimes we go through very hard patches in life. If t may be a period of difficult finances or poor health or a myriad of other things. We need to stop in those times and ask God for the strength to be content. We need to realize that our life here on earth is just a short period of time. Ask God to help you enjoy those times as a time period where God is teaching us important lessons. Trust Him to deliver you through these times and look ahead to a better time. Choose to be content and ask God to make the impossible possible.
Paul’s life and words demonstrated contentment everywhere and in all things. He demonstrated that it is a learned behaviour, not dependant on circumstances, a state of being, based in the riches of Christ. Contentment is a choice, cultivated by continually resisting the discontentment spirit of the age, it is not happenstance. Christian contentment comes through the people of God who support each other. It also comes from the power of God that strengthens a person. the Greek word for contentment is also translated as satisfied, competent, or sufficient. Christian contentment is the God given ability to be satisfied with the loving provision of God in any and every situation. Happiness is temporary and fleeting, Joy and contentment are eternal.
🙏. Lord Jesus, thank You for strengthening me in such a way that I can say that I can be content in all of life’s circumstances. Thank You for Your blessings in my life. I love You and it’s in Your name I pray.
