What are you listening to?

Last night I turned off the evening news, and went outside in the backyard. Instead of listening to the gloom and doom of the daily reports, I listened to the birds. I took off my shoes and walked in the cool grass. I gave my plants an extra drink, and enjoyed the beauty.
Sometimes, beauty speaks more to my heart than the television. The news has not changed much, and watching the images only makes the trauma seem worse. During this time of stress, I have to ask myself; “Who are you listening to?” “Why is this voice so important right now?” I need to hear the simple song of peace and joy.
It is my plan to take time each day to listen for joy and peace. The stories of the news and controversy of politics takes a second place to listening for the voice of God in goodness and love. I need to hear the positive and kind words of friends and the peace that comes from nature.
