How ARE You?

Thursday, May 21, 2020

I am doing OK except for back pain. I will have another shot for pain on June 16. Plus I will also be getting a Vertiflex inserted in between L4 and L5 vertebrae to relieve the pressure of herniated discs. Vertiflex is a titanium spacer.

Today I start the procedure of getting a crown replaced. So I will be at the dentist this afternoon.

I am eating mostly healthy. I have had some slip ups. It is easy to slip when you have a spouse who does not eat like you do. Ah, but I must eat healthy! I need to remind myself often.

We also order food to help the restaurants stay in business. Plus I don't feel like cooking every day. Here is the problem with that. Restaurant food has too much sodium! I am sodium sensitive.

Any tips for doing that?

How is your eating during this time of isolation?

My doc changed my meds before the madness began. The new med made my feet swell and my face flushed. I waited it out because of the staying indoors and social distancing. I went last week to the doc and he changed it back. No more swelling, etc. I feel better too.

SO, I am doing what I can to take care of this body. Hopefully the back pain will ease up and I can do things again! It is wearing on me. Other than that, I am improving.

How is your health? How are you dealing during this pandemic? Does it seem the world we knew is gone? I cannot wait to get back to normal living. No masks, no hand washing all the time (just a reasonable time), no sanitizing every surface, etc.

I always wash my hands, anyway, after arriving home from shopping. Just because you never know what germy hands have touched things that you touch. I always wipe my counters in the kitchen, but not with sanitizer, just soap and water.

It's true that restaurant food is so overladen with salt! When we get takeout, I notice that I wake up all night thirsty and need to drink water. That says something! The only suggestion I have is to order a large salad (let your meat eating hubby have the grilled chicken) Add canned beans and rice (you can buy that premade too, did you know?) and a non oil/no salt dressing--or even balsamic dressing alone.

You are very brave to keep plugging along even though you are in discomfort. I really salute you!

You don't have to be perfect to make progress! Keep going!

I hope that the approval for the Vertiflex comes through sooner rather than later. I've dealt with a bit of back pain and it's not fun to be in discomfort all the time! Glad that you were able to get the meds switched back. We too like to try to support our restaurants with ordering. I just try to order as healthy as I can - well sometimes I do - and drink LOTS of water to try to mitigate the effects of the higher sodium content in the meals.
I'm happy that it's FINALLY warm enough here to barbeque on a regular basis - always tastes so good and seems to be a healthier than some other forms of meal prep.
Yes it will be wonderful to get back to "normal" or more likely what will become our "new normal" as I think it will take a LONG time until things are as they once were. We're going to need a vaccine and widespread vaccination from what I can tell, before we can think about some of the activities we used to enjoy. Eventually though I think we will beat this virus - it's been done before.

Take care and keep doing the best that you can - that's all anyone can do! emoticon
