I attended my first pandemic Zoom party last night. My sister (Sister 2), whose birthday is today, asked for a Zoom birthday party. I was skeptical about whether the dancing and the charades that my sister wanted would actually occur but they did and it wasn't as weird as I thought it would be.
My sister had us each send us one dance tune and bring a cupcake with a lit candle to the party. I brought a pineapple cupcake and it was good.
The cupcakes were the first to go.
We sang happy birthday to her and then, danced to the first tune, Here Comes the Sun, the song chosen by Sister 3.
Sister 5 gave Sister 3 a tour of her new house as Sister 3 hadn't seen it yet.
Then, we danced to the second song, which I'd never heard before, chosen by Sister 4.
Did more chatting and Sister 4 took us outside to see her husband's campfire and then back in for more dancing. This time, the song was the one I picked. It's a song popularized by the Eurythmics but I asked for the Weezer version of Sweet Dreams Are Made of This.
Chatted some more and danced to Sister 5's song, Teeth by 5 Seconds of Summer. I'd never heard of this one either but I kinda liked it. What do you think?
The last song was the birthday girl's song and it was Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen.
After the dancing was done, we played charades where each of us had to act out one item.
Sister 3 had her sons pop in to say hi and then we wrapped up the party just before 9 (we had started at 7 p.m.). It was actually kind of fun.
Now, I'm wondering if I might do a Zoom birthday party, too. I'll have to think on it. Any other activity suggestions for a Zoom birthday party would be welcome. I'm not sure I'd want to do the dancing and charades again since my party would likely be in a few weeks. As I say, I'll have to think about it.
