The Daily Dishtowel - 6

Friday, April 17, 2020

Every day I take a walk, a (relatively) lengthy one of generally two miles or more, depending on the time and the availability of a neighbor - it's our walking "buddy system." There are days we cut it kind of short. It may come as some surprise but occasionally it rains here in Merrie Olde.

There isn't a lot of wildlife, at least not where I am. This is a very civilized area, a kind-of surburb with lots of tract houses, blocks of flats, some duplexes / semi-detached, all mostly new-build. Planners have done pretty well with allocating parks and other green spaces, but perhaps that explains the shortage of true nature.

Still, there are quite a few songbirds, the occasional rabbit, the occasional fox (no doubt in search of the occasional rabbit), and the ever-rarer hedgehog. But on yesterday's walk I discovered the furtive Felis catus, surveying his domain:

He eyed us coolly, arrogant in his lordship, then turned away again, disdainful of our admiration. Or curiosity, for that matter. Being on the other side of the fence, he surely knew he was safe from two old ladies.

Off for the daily walk. Wonder what surprises today's will bring? ;-)

Have a good 'un, people - carpe diem!
