Thought and Prayer for Thursday, April 9, 2020

Thursday, April 09, 2020

Imagine trying to get something done but not being able to focus because of constant distractions. It’s hard to get things done when interferences from people and/or electronic devices attempt to keep our attention. Sometimes our own minds distract us from getting things done. That’s what worry does. It fills our minds with things that haven’t even happened yet or that aren’t even real taking our focus off God.

God talks about unnecessary distractions in His word. He tells us throughout the Bible not to worry. He says He cares about us and promises to take care of us. He says if we don’t worry, we will be blessed with peace. He tells us to pray rather than worry. He says He will give us all we need. So rather than worry today, choose to pray and meditate on God’s word which promises so many wonderful blessings.

Matthew 6:31-33 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)

1. Write what you worry about most.
2. List the reasons you are worrying.
3. Know worrying means you don’t trust God.
4. Choose prayer over worry and start meditating on God’s word.

Dear Lord, we know worrying doesn’t accomplish anything except distracting us from You. Help us to remember today to pray rather than worry. We know there is nothing too big for You to handle. We give You our worries and concerns for today. Thank You, Lord, for Your promises to take our concerns and give us peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

Matthew 6:27 “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (NIV)

1 Peter 5:7 “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” (NLT)

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (KJV)

This month we focus on meditating on God’s word. Practice meditating on God’s word all throughout the day for the next 30 days. Experience and journal the changes God makes in your mind, heart, words and actions. Thank Him for these changes as you draw closer to Him. And remember God is in control!
