April 7, 2020 ATTITUDE CHECK – 30 DAYS OF MEDITATING ON THE WORD OF GOD

What makes up our attitude? We all have one. We either have a great attitude or a rotten one. Our attitudes come from our thoughts. Yes, the actions and words of others can cause us to change our attitude; however, they do not control our attitude. A change in attitude is our choice. When we choose to get up with the right attitude every day, we will.

If we were to look in a Bible glossary, we would find a great deal of Scripture about attitudes. God wants us to have an attitude like Christ. He wants us to focus on what is true and right. He wants us to fill our minds with His word so our attitude will reflect His goodness, mercy and grace. We can’t serve God with a bad attitude. It’s time we start meditating on His word and praying for a better attitude in all things.

SCRIPTURE:
Philippians 4:8-9 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write out a description of your attitude.
2. List what makes your attitude change from good to bad.
3. Know a greater focus on God will help your attitude.
4. Read and meditate on God’s word to help improve your attitude.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we sometimes have a stinky attitude. We allow things in the world to bring us down. We get frustrated and annoyed when things don’t go our way. We get bent out of shape when we see wrongdoing in the world. Help us to remember You are in control and will always be in control. Take control of our minds today, Lord, so we have an attitude like Christ. We trust in You and depend completely on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

TODAY’S MEDITATION:
Proverbs 23:7a “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (NKJV)

Philippians 2:5 “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” (NLT)

Ephesians 4:23 “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” (NLT)

APRIL CHALLENGE:
This month we focus on meditating on God’s word. Practice meditating on God’s word all throughout the day for the next 30 days. Experience and journal the changes God makes in your mind, heart, words and actions. Thank Him for these changes as you draw closer to Him. And remember God is in control!
