Monday, April 06, 2020

A woman was making and selling face masks so we bought four. Now we can go to the grocery store with a little protection.

Interesting re filters, but exercise caution because you are breathing in tiny bits of unknown material . Remember this is a respiratory disease, and a makeshift filter could makr you mire vulnerable.

My housemate and I did the same, ordering 4 from Etsy. And I have a friend mailing me a couple homemade ones with a filter pocket as well. My friend says "shop towels" (Scott shop towels, Rags in a Box, etc.) or even a paper towel or coffee filter do well for use in the filter pocket for extra protection.

She also said some people are using furnace filters (!!!) - "Take out the “fabric” and iron it. It works and is almost as good as an N95 mask."

Just some thoughts for extra protection. I suggest researching first, of course - especially the furnace filter in case it might contains particles you don't want to breathe through - but I'm going to do some research for extra filters for use in my own cloth masks.
