Challenges

Sunday, April 05, 2020

Right now the world is facing the Challenge of a lifetime, this Covid Pandemic is unprecedented, the isolation is foreign, the fear is real, this disease is deadly. It is of utmost importance that we adhere to the pleas of our countries to Stay Home, Wash, Wash, Wash and now wear a mask when we go get groceries and other necessaries of life. This is a Global Challenge for each and every one of us.

Then there are Sparks' 5% Challenges. I did my first 5% Challenge the winter of 2017. Boy it seems much longer ago than that. I keep signing up and keep exercising but alas I seem to exercise my jaws more than my body. As each Challenge comes to an end it is painfully obvious that once again I am not going to make the coveted 5% loss. I thought long and hard about doing the Spring 2020 one and even left it to the very last minute before accepting my invitation. I got busy and visited the team page, did the "Getting to know you" thread and then decided to see who was on the team seeing as I was a returnee after 2 Challenges with another team. There are some new and some former ones which makes it interesting. I surfed a few "home" pages and found two (so far) that have proved to be just what I needed firstly for inspiration and secondly great information. So here I am back on board and believe it or not I have formulated a plan this time. Yesterday was Day One. I stuck to the plan and today I did again even though a walk in winter wonderland wasn't quite what I had in mind!! I dressed for the occasion winter boots, coat, mittens and yes, scarf. Strength exercises are part of the plan as well and I'm thinking I should blog about it too. I intend to blog a couple times a week as time permits as I do want to do some more surfing through other Challengers pages and blogs. Can't hurt can it? I am going to give this my very best effort. I'm reaching out to others on the team and paying attention to their daily entries so I can encourage them as the days go on. I'm in it for the long haul, I'm pumped, I'm serious.

Here's to not exercising your jaws! That's where the weight loss usually actually happens. (though exercise leads to other good things, SOMETIMES even eating less dense food!)

Fill us in on your plan! I need to get over the loose plan that just has me spinning my wheels and come up with one that moves me, even if slowly! I let the world worries convince me I needed to comfort myself with food, but now I gotta get back on track! Been pretty good since the start of Spring 5%.

    Hi Verna,
I’m so happy for you that you decided to join the 5% challenge again. Consistently staying with the 5% challenges was a big part and motivator for me losing 90 pounds over 2-1/2 years. During that time I developed a detailed plan that I followed very closely. I remember the times I wasn’t losing weight but kept living my new healthy lifestyle of “eating less and exercising more” and over time the pounds came off. Just take it a day at a time & “Keep Sparking”!!

Nice to hear from you, it's been awhile. I just wish I had the time to do all the tracking that the 5% challenge requires. Just don't like to spend that much extra time, it's just not my thing.

With so many of us not eating out, we can make healthier choices when we cook at home.

I just love your 'get up and go' attitude my friend. I met my challenge last time...but UGH with this virus epidemic all I want to do is cook and eat...so here I am again! Good luck to both of us!

This SP challenge will help with the stress of the other Covid-19 challenge. When I get stressed I head to my exercise area and get going-put on some uplifting music and it sure does help. Burned the calories and got rid of the stress!
We will get through this nightmare of a pandemic and hopefully come out the end of it, healthy and have lost weight. I got to watch my eating more! Comfort foods! UGH!
Thanks for inspiring me with your will do attitude! You go Verna!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
