I hit another milestone!
Friday, April 03, 2020
I've been walking since July 24th, 2011 and I've tracked every step and mile I've walked.
I added yesterday's totals to my walking log and discovered that I hit 12,001.79 miles. I've been walking around the center of the Earth since I started. I had looked up the miles and found 24,901.45 miles. I'm almost halfway around.
I'm also on my 6th virtual hike of the Appalachian trail. I started on.May 16, 2019 and I'm at 1101.56 miles. Which using walking4fun.com miles is halfway to the end.
I started the Great Allegheny Passage on walking4fun.com on March 25th, 2020 and I'm 35.4 miles in now.
My year to date miles finally got to.300.48. Considering this year I'm happy with that.
Keeping track of my miles has motivated me to keep on walking. When I started on July 24th, 2011, i thought that walking the Appalachian trail was a laugh. It wasn't on walking4fun.com when I started. I looked up the distance which was different from the walking4fun.com mileage. I thought the idea was a joke. That I could never walk that far. It took awhile and it still does but that is not the point. The point is I set what I considered a ridiculous goal and accomplished it. By the time I finished the first time, I was definitely hooked on walking. Which led me to my first actual realize hike at Carvers Gap on the actual Appalachian trail. That was 2012. I loved the hike.
My late brother, Scott and I made it a point to go hiking every summer. We would hike trails all around in North Carolina and Tennessee in the Smokies and surrounding areas. We enjoyed the beauty of God's creation.
There were trails we hit that were beyond my capabilities because of severe arthritis in my hips and knees. Steps are my downfall. Last summer was my last hike and it was on Roan Mountain. Unfortunately it did me in. Between my physical problems and asthma it was too much. That doesn't mean I quit walking. I walk on the beach when I get to Florida. I walk around the neighborhood and even in the house.
My brother passed away on March 12, 2020. I'm going to miss our adventures but I have some fantastic memories of our times together to remember.
All you need is good walking shoes. When I started I could barely walk a third of a mile. My best day was 22 miles. Not at once but activities through that one day and an evening walk with my best friend.
I hope you'll get up and move. Join me doing a virtual hike on walking4fun.com. I love being out in nature.
