An update after a long time

HI everyone!
I have not been on Sparks for over a year. Last time I blogged I was excited about the coming move to a brand new retirement residence last April. Then the company changed the plan of the studio apt. I could afford, without notifying anyone only weeks before the move, and it no longer met my needs. I had already packed a lot of boxes but luckily I got my deposit back and had not started the process to sell my condo, was going to do that post move. Just as well as although the building was not a full care residence, was advertised to appeal to younger active seniors, with some amenities, activities, housekeeping, and optional dining room, most others I saw who in the end actually made the decision to move in, were a lot older and frailer than me. Would be aging myself and not ready for that at 71. Just as well, as i would rather be here on my own with less exposure in my condo through this virus emergency. I have lots of interests and projects and books right here at home to keep me busy.

The failed move was a good practice run though and I did manage to get rid of some extra clutter and furniture. This shelter-in-place time in Toronto will give me incentive to do even more downsizing. Then I will be ready with my limited possessions to move in a few years to an appropriate retirement home at the time I need more assistance.

Meanwhile I had grab bars put in my walk-in shower and on my bed. I have a walker that is more supportive than my cane for my arthritis and back problems. I can still do basic housekeeping and food prep. There is a local food Market next door or I can order on-line other groceries and staples to be delivered. My little park up the street has new tulips and other flowers popping up so i can go outside for a spring walk while distancing from others, and keep taking my photos.

A picture of me with snow on the rooftop patio in early March. Still need to lose more weight but keeping off the 35 pounds I lost since retiring. I was swimming at the Y before but here at least I have a Cubii under-desk leg exerciser to use while on the computer and can do other exercises and stretching.

Please everyone, stay safe and well in this difficult and scary time. This virus emergency puts everything in perspective, when we discover what we actually need to live and be happy and what to be grateful for, Brighter days will come again. emoticon Alice

Sharing this poem that someone shared with me.....

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.

It's so good to hear from you, Allie! I'm glad you are well and that you safe in your condo. Sometimes things work out for the best, and the move that didn't happen last year seems to be one of those.

Thank you for sharing that poem by John O'Donahue. I have enjoyed his poetry, and that one is especially appropriate for this time in our lives.

Best wishes, and stay safe. Yes, brighter days will come!
    Hugs from Louise
