The 8:00PM Howl

Saturday, March 28, 2020

Get this. It’s amaze-balls. About 45 min away from me a neighborhood has adopted an 8:00Pm howl-fest. Really!

We’ve been pretty respectful of the Shelter in Place here in the Bay Area. I mean, even our Mayor posted a video on how to straighten and style your hair when you can’t get to the salon. Seriously. Look up London Breed with her flat iron. It’s great!

Oops, I got distracted. How ever did that happen during a time like this? Hee.
At 8:00PM everyone comes outside their homes, stands in their driveways, balconies or whatever, and howls at the sky with all of their healthy hearts. It’s wonderful!
The local news asked why they were doing it. One person said it was to show the health care workers that we love them. The kids didnt care of course. They had an excuse to howl!
The dogs looked bothered by it all.

Personally I vote for clapping, but at an early hour. Maybe 6:00PM? Such the rule breaker, I know.

I think we should all start something fun in our neighborhoods to get through this time, don’t you?

The Wave? The Running Man? Chicken Dance? I should stop myself now...

‘Nuff Said.

I'm impressed by all the creative things people are doing to have a sense of belonging, pulling together, and at the same time distancing. Thanks for sharing!

Here there is a trend going on to place teddybears in front of one's window. That way the little kids and anyone else who is taking a stroll can go 'bear hunting', spotting and counting the bears they see in the windows.

Hair solution = a wig to keep it simple.

Howling idea reminds me of two adult, female neighbors on our block who would howl on full moon nights. Our furchildren Lord & Lady Barkley, aka KC the Sunshine Dog & Miss Bailey, would go nuts!

Lots of folks walking their dogs, being respectful of distancing, in our subdivision. Now not nearly enough of these folks pick up their dog's deposits on the sidewalks and people's driveways.

Some neighbors are putting stuffed animals in their windows for children to find and list on the online Neighborhood Newsletter.

My neighborhood is doing a bear hunt. People are putting teddy bears in their Windows. People out stretching their legs with their children are helping the kids spot the bears.
