Our governor in MN made his "stay home" executive order today. Effective Friday at noon all non-essential businesses are to close. While there isn't a fine or anything attached to being out, I guess there can be for businesses that remain open. I a man a veterinary technician. My practice is just me and the vet/owner. We are considered essential, but we are, like everyone else asked to practice social distancing. We will only be seeing the patients that need to be seen for medication management. We won't be seeing routine annual exams or anything. We will dispense meds and such with curbside pick up. We also had to submit and inventory of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves, and gowns, etc. The request being that we may be asked to pass it along to a hospital in need. One "nice" part is we are in MN. We have a LOT of medical systems here, so our capacity relative to our population is pretty decent. We also are home to Medtronic, who manufactures 70% of the country's ventilators. We are also home to 3M and Honeywell who manufacture a large portion of N95 masks and other PPE. So, while the president hasn't used his ability to ask/tell manufacturers to build what we need, our governor has been working with our companies to step it up and help provide what they need to do so. Props to Governor Walz. I'm glad we have him right now.
On the home front, today was one of our better days. The kids actually played together for quite a while, without my intervention. I had a whole HOUR! I hung some pictures in our living room finally. We've only lived here over 2 years now and got the first pictures/art up. I also ran some "errands." I dropped off a few things with two different friends. I got to see their faces and talk to them from very safe distances. It was nice to get to see my friends. I miss them. That was the highlight of my last two weeks.
For some self care, I'm gonna talk to a friend and see how she has set up virtual happy hours. We don't have any web cams, so I'm not sure how hers would work for us, but we should find something that works.
