Trying times

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

The State of Michigan is under a stay at home order. We can leave our homes to get groceries or medicine, get outdoors to exercise (lots of people going for walks in their neighborhoods) and essential service providers can work. I am an essential service provider. I have been working shorter hours in the office, but have been in the office daily since the order.

I know this will probably seem silly, but I have been having a difficult time staying on my eating plan. I have been craving carbs like crazy. They have always been my comfort food. I have found myself making way too many exceptions to my meal plans!

Over the past week I have managed to gain 4 lbs - mainly from eating foods which were not on my meal plan. I am going to work extra hard to quit telling myself it's ok and I will get back on track later. Today is the day!

So far, so good!

Anyone else having this issue?

Thank you for working!!! It's very hard to stay on plan. Keep on trying to stay on it - at least 80% of the time. Keep on drinking water. Push through this. Stay safe & sane.
Penna. has been for these past 2 weeks - stay at home. I'm sure it will be extended. Hubby & I are staying home & healthy.

I can't seem to stop self-comforting with food. I mindlessly ate an entire bag of popcorn this PM. You aren't "crazy"...just the world around us right now!

For some (me), the proverbial rug has been pulled out from under us. For others (you), are daily in the thick of things, trying to do your job. All of it is stressful & difficult. -- I totally get the weight gain frustration. (I'm on your "track".)
I have good moments & "bad" moments. Having energy to do anything seems M.I.A. Definitely struggling with depressive feelings. Working to keep the TV OFF & stay off the computer...

I'll share something that has been helping me. We've been under stay at home orders for a while now, and the store shelves are pretty bare. Food-wise: no pasta, soup, canned vegs, sliced bread of any kind, most frozen veggies are gone, even a lot of vegetarian foods get stripped out. No lunchmeat, no sliced or shredded cheese, the list goes on. So, I've been eating like I might not be able to replace what I have, and if anyone in our household gets sick and we go on 14 day quarantine (no leaving the house for anything) my food supplies have to last. So, I've actually been eating much less than usual. I've also been out exercising daily in order to be my healthiest when I do encounter those virus bugs. So it's giving me a sense of comfort knowing that I'm doing all I can. My scale has only dropped about 1.5 lb so far, but I think that's cuz my muscles are holding on to some water from all this sudden exercising. I hope my perspective might help?

Just stay as safe as you can while you have to work outside your home.

Oregon is under a stay at home order as well, I'm also an essential worker. I'm working 630am to 230pm straight thru with the typical "desk lunch" scenario. soup / sandwich, veggies and dips, etc. At least i don't have anyone bringing in the goodies for share =) although my boss did order the 3 of us lunch (I had a veggie wrap and saved half for tomorrow).

We can survive this. Eat as well as you can with what you have on hand. We were mostly able to find the foods that I don't want in the house but we are trying to work it to our advantage as much as we can.

I figure even with the best intentions we may have weight fluctuations due to stress, life changes, sleep changes, etc. Don't worry about the number right now, just focus on taking the best care of yourself as you can and the rest will work itself out in the long run.

    Be safe and stay sane. =}

It is tough to stay on any program during these uncertain times. I tell myself I need to cut back so that I can fit through the door when the shelter in place is lifted!

NOT crazy to crave carbs in times like these. For sure. I just keep remnding myself that we can only do our best, but have to try.

HUGS and stay well, stay safe.
