First swim practice

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

My daughter has not been in a pool since Special Olympics last June. First night first lap they lay on their back, look straight up at the ceiling holding a floating device with arms crossed to go from one end of the pool to the other using just their legs. My daughter had perfect form as she laid there. Her legs were a kicking and the water was a splashing - but she wasn’t moving. She was like stuck. Parents are not allowed to intervene and I kept mouthing through my laughter keep your legs straight don’t bend them. Then boom - the other girls had made it down to the other end and were coming back and had there backs to each other. One girl took my daughter under with her arm, and the other hit her head with my daughters head and under she went. She was grasping for air, so 2 life guards jumped in with the life saving device, dragging her out of the pool as my daughter was choking and crying. Whew day 1 over

Oh my! What a scare for her, especially so unexpected. Hope the rest of the season goes better.
