February 24, 2020 INSIGHT AND WISDOM
Some say wisdom is experiencing life and learning from experiences. That does make us wise but it depends on much more. Looking to the world for wisdom is not at all a good choice. God says if we believe we are wise by the world’s standards, we are only fooling ourselves. We are to seek and ask for godly wisdom. That wisdom is better than gold. God says insight is better than silver. Insight is a deeper view or clearer understand of God’s word. We can get this by reading His word and applying it to our lives. If we want to grow spiritually and have a firmer foundation in God, we need wisdom and insight.
James 1:5-8 “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.” (NLT)
1. Write what you do to seek wisdom.
2. List ways you can obtain better insight.
3. Know God wants you to search for these daily.
4. Remember to ask God for wisdom and insight from His word.
Dear Lord, we know if we want to have a strong and firm foundation in You, we need to seek wisdom and insight. We need to dig deep into Your word and learn from it. You tell us getting wisdom is the most important thing we can do. You tell us insight is better than silver and wisdom is better than gold. Show us what we need to do today to gain wisdom and insight. We want to live in obedience to You and build a firm foundation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
The most important thing we can do is seek wisdom and insight from God’s word.
Proverbs 4:7 “Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. Whatever else you get, get insight.” (GNT)
1 Corinthians 3:18-20 “Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, ‘He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.’ And again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.’” (NLT)
James 3:17 “But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” (NLT)
Wisdom and insight from God is better than silver and gold.
Proverbs 16:16 “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!” (NIV)
