Cardinals stay all winter in my neighbourhood. They're not particularly active . . . and their feathers (both male and female) are rather subdued. .
They come to our feeders: but not every day. .
And I see them on my lunch time walks too. They are mostly silent, although sometimes I do hear them calling. They have a huge range of different calls and songs.
But but but . . . today was the FIRST day I heard cardinals singing before dawn. Singing the sun up!!
And that sun up song, at least in my neighbourhood, goes like this:
CHEER! CHEER! CHEER! wick wick wick wick wick wick!.
CHEER! CHEER! CHEER! wick wick wick wick wick wick!
Spring is coming. The cardinals are singing the sun up!!
