Mysteries of the Missing

Sunday, February 23, 2020

Mysteries of the Missing is a show on Science Channel. It started in August 2017. The host is someone who has some history of being missing mysteriously - Terry O’Quinn (he was John Locke on Lost) The premise of the hourly show is investigating famous people, things & places who have been lost. They try to prove or dismiss the major legends, Example (& the first time I saw an episode - today!) was about finding Atlantis. The Greek philosopher wrote many, um, scrolls? Philosophic musings? Anyway, he described the fall of Atlantis as “disappeared in one day”, spoke of the location & what it looked like. A group of brilliant truth seekers decided to check out the most common of the presumed locations. Most were dismissed after rigorous examination. Plato had described Atlantis as “an island” with a series of rings around it. Most people believed it was a conical island surrounded by water. The particular word Plato used could mean an island surrounded by water, OR it could mean an island of land surrounded by different looking land. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when the truth seekers found what looks like a crater (to me) surrounded by increasingly wider rings. This land, found in the Moroccan desert, clicked off nearly every one of the descriptions by Plato! Oh, boy, I was hooked immediately. There seem to be 2 investigations per episode. There were several investigations into lost airplanes. Nothing like watching episode after episode on a lazy weekend day! I’ll bet most folks have never seen the show.

Ain’t No Sunshine, Bill Withers, 1971

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away

And I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know
Hey, I ought to leave the young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness every day
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away

Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
