February 21, 2020 PUTTING UP A SHIELD

Shields protect us from things that could harm us or even kill us. Back in the day, soldiers carried shields to protect them in war. In today’s world, we have windshields on our cars that protect us from the elements while we are driving. Some people have an invisible shield like a barrier they put up because they don’t want to get hurt in relationships. Shields are like barriers that block things or people from harming us. Shields protect us. When God speaks about a shield of faith, He is telling us our faith in Him will keep us safe. Faith in God is what we need for protection, salvation and eternal life.

SCRIPTURE:
1 John 5:4-5 “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you put your faith in God.
2. List what God says about faith in His word.
3. Know faith in God is what you need for the crown of life.
4. Trust in God in all things and remain faithful to Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful for Your protection. You tell us when we have faith in You that we will defeat this world. Our faith will help us fight off the evil from Satan. Our faith, even when we are facing death, will give us the crown of life. You tell us to remain faithful in all things. And when we are faithful, we will remain in fellowship with You. Remind us to carry the shield of faith in all things today and every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight for the true faith.” (NLT)

Ephesians 6:16b “hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.” (NLT)

Revelation 2:10b “But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.” (NLT)

1 John 2:24 “So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.” (NLT)

1 Peter 1:7b “So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” (NLT)
