The Hunter/Gatherer In Me

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Yes. Hunter/Gatherer - a.k.a. shopper! I know shopping is not everyone's cuppa - but I love it. I even enjoy tagging along with DH at boat chandlers or hardware stores. If I were younger and in a city I'd be a personal shopper. Even with the stores as meagerly supplied as they are now - there is still reward in hunting. Today, though, I am going shopping for party food. With somebody else's credit card. The local Rotary puts on a fundraiser concert every February and last year the Woman's Club stepped up to do the refreshments, which included, in addition to women baking in their kitchens, somebody doing a big shopping run. It takes all morning and nobody in the Rotary thinks that is fun. I, otoh, the quintessential hunter/gatherer, thinks is a hoot. I'll pick up another club member who has a card at one of those bulk buying stores and we'll fill our carts with party treats. The trip includes lunch out at Panera - which is also a treat for this country girl.

When this concert is over (Saturday night) I will be done with obligations for a good bit of time. Oh - I'll have dooties - but they will be worker-bee ones - not queen-bee activities. I'm really ready to sink back into the hive for a while. Enough responsibilities will be making their demands known soon, so while I can, I intend to be a happy drone in the studio.

I like the contrast between queen bee and worker bee. I would definitely rather be the second than the first these days. My queen bee days are behind me - more relaxing this way I think!

Glad yOu enjoy it...not I...esp for myself!
Although I sure do a lot of it.
Funny, I often tell my dear man that he is the idea man (left handed and so creative, or maybe just a more flexible thinker than I...are you a leftie by any chance?) that he is the idea guy and I am the worker bee as I am usually the one who makes things happen around here.

OHHHHhhhh that will be nice to be a worker bee vs. a queen bee! LOL But my dear, you still sound like you enjoy what you're involved in.

HUGS and have fun spending anothers $$$! LOL Lots more fun than our own, isn't it!

Good for you . . . for taking on a chore you LIKE (and that others don't) and even more, for making this your last queen bee dootie!! Yeah, I'm good with the drone stuff absolutely!!

Had to laugh at ONEKIDSMOM response. Ditto!

I have a friend that shares my trait: not my cuppa. However, we have a mutual friend that is a quintessential hunter/gatherer like yourself. And, each year before the academic year would start, she would accompany us on a shopping trip to acquire work clothes. She essentially served as our personal shopper. She has an amazing eye for color and style and would score finds we'd likely never have explored. Sharing the excursion with our friend the hunter/gatherer is great fun!

Yeah, not my cuppa. The only time I enjoy a shopping trip is when I go with someone like you, who really is into it!

emoticon would be my reaction to such a task.

Not an enthusiastic shopper, ever. My method was to run into a retail outfit and get what I needed/wanted and get out OR order from the Sears/Penney's/Montgomery Ward catalogs. Now, I sign on and shop online with front porch delivery. Thinking about this now, lack of disposable income when growing up and later developing environmental allergies complicating exposure to allergens were driving forces in this indifference to shopping.

My Mom and one of us four sisters were always in their element on shopping excursions. Mom was a long-term Kress Girl -- employee of a five & dime store that is familiar around these parts. Even in her early 80's she loved to 'shop' which meant going up and down every aisle and comparing prices to the 1930's & 1940's
