February 20, 2020 WORK FOR PEACE

One thing everyone wishes for is peace. We want peace in our homes, at work and even in the world. However, wishing for peace doesn’t make it happen. We have to work for peace. God calls us to be peacemakers…not peace wishers. Reading through God’s word we see many verses about working for peace. How do we do that? We turn away from evil and do good. We read God’s word, fill our minds with His Scripture and obey Him. We decide when we wake up to practice peace by putting others first. When we practice peace, we will plant seeds of peace and be blessed with God’s righteousness.

James 3:18 “And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” (NLT)

1. Write how you practice peace.
2. List what attributes are needed to be a peacemaker.
3. Know God’s word will help you find peace.
4. Remember to seek peace in all you do and work to maintain it.

Dear Lord, it seems so hard to practice peace. There is so much turmoil in this world. There is bickering at home. There is gossip at work. There is backstabbing, jealousy and dissention all around us. We know, however, You are able to help us to practice peace. We can begin with prayer, reading Your word and obeying You. Fill our hearts with a strong desire to practice peace knowing we will grow closer to You and build a firmer foundation in Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are called to work at living in peace with everyone. That means all people. What can we do to change our words, attitudes and actions to live in peace?

Hebrews 12:14 “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” (NLT)

Matthew 5:9 “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (NLT)

Psalm 34:14 “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” (NLT)

We are to wake up every morning putting on the shoes of peace. We can do this by reading God’s word and meditating on it all day long.

Ephesians 6:15 “For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” (NLT)
