"In 10 Years, it is Estimated that 50 percent of Americans will be Obese"

Monday, February 17, 2020

I heard this conjecture the other day, based on the rate we are currently increasing in obesity. Not a happy thought, for sure. I'll just keep eating right, exercising and trying my best not to become part of the statistic.

Recently I read that tomatoes should not be refrigerated. That's where I've always had them. Where do you keep yours?

Have a wonderful holiday Monday, friends.

I keep tomatoes on my bench. Some are so sweet that it really
feels like you are eating fruit.

Australia is not far behind the US in the obesity stakes!

Oh dear. That's an upsetting statistic with lots of ramifications we can't even imagine yet. I hope we can turn things around so that fewer of us will become obese and more of us return to normal weight. Our parents' generation had a much lower obesity rate, and in my small Georgia hometown, it was not that common either in my childhood, though it's now quite prevalent. But as you say, all each of us can really do is to try hard not to be part of the 50%. You're doing a good job!

We keep them in a bowl on the counter. Cherry tomatoes make a great snack when sitting in plain view.

I keep mine in the fridge as I can't eat them fast enough to keep them on the counter.

It is a little alarming, the obesity rate in the US is huge. And I struggle with my weight myself. But I am eating healthier and exercising and doing much better. I think our reliance on processed food and eating out at fast food places is damaging our health.

For tomatoes, I usually keep them in the fridge unless I will be eating them right away. They do taste better at room temperature, but they also go bad more quickly

I wouldn't be surprised to see the obesity rate higher based on what I see in children. Most of our students only want to eat junk food or fast food, and do not want to play unless it is on a device and does not require movement. About half of the students bring a note every week to excuse them from PE so they won't be required to move any more than they absolutely have to.

Never refrigerate tomatoes..it stops any additional ripening and decreases flavor!
Or so I have read for years. emoticon

It is shocking when out in a crowd to see how heavy most people are getting!

I usually keep my tomatoes on the counter. But then I usually use them within a day of getting them.

IN the summer, all over the counter! In the winter, in the fridge. Just more convenient, I guess, to keep 'em in the fridge. Just curious . . . why NOT keep them in the fridge?

I keep tomatoes in the fridge unless they are home grown. I don't like them.

Plenty of other people are over weight too in addition to all of the obese people. I seldom see anyone thin over a certain age here. The cause is processed foods. I am encouraged though to see that here there are very people ever in the cereal aisle now.
