February 16, 2020 OUR WORST ENEMY
We all have enemies. We have people at work or in our personal life that we may believe are out to get us. We may think people intentionally do things or don’t do things just to get even with us or simply because they don’t like us. While that may or may not be true, our worst enemies are not others. We are our own worst enemies. Here’s why…
We fill our minds with things of the world. We think negative thoughts about ourselves. At times, we are selfish, envious and callous. We sometimes get greedy and demanding. We put a lot of bad things into our minds. However, we can change that. When we recognize there is a problem, we can choose to do what is right. We can fill our minds with God’s word and choose to follow Him. We can turn from our negative ways and seek His Light and love that will fill us with all that is good.
Genesis 4:7 “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” (NLT)
1. Write what negative thoughts you have had lately.
2. List ways you may be your own worst enemy.
3. Know God has a better plan for you.
4. Remember God is with you, in you and for you. He wants you to succeed!!
Dear Lord, we know we can be our own worst enemy. We know we can allow our thoughts to go dark and think bad things which move us away from thinking about You. You tell us in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are “true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable…excellent and worthy of praise.” Help us to focus on You rather than this world. Show us ways to better control our thinking so that we are filling our minds with You and Your word. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Isaiah 50:11 “But watch out, you who live in your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires. This is the reward you will receive from me: You will soon fall down in great torment.” (NLT)
Luke 12:15 “Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’” (NIV)
Luke 21:34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,” (NLT)
Galatians 5:15 “If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” (NIV)
We need to watch out for our own thoughts and actions that can cause us to go down a road of destruction.
Hebrews 12:15b “Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (NLT)
