The seam, before...
What you don't see is how deep the scratches in the leather were! But my Diamond Girl had really done a number on that cowhide! Remember Diamond? She's been gone from my home for nearly 9 years, but never left my heart! Carl refreshes memories of her in his furry love, but by the time Diamond departed, she had become an old dog, and Carl is still not quite grown up, at eleven months.
Even after the repair / refreshing, those deep scratches remain, giving a tactile memory of Diamond's presence in my life.
Enter Ann, the gal with the Fibrenew business. With a curved needle, strong thread, and bottle(s) of leather color to blend it all together, and as I told my son, a boatload of patience... she took my battered couch and made it so much better. I left it to dry overnight, and this morning, took the photo for my Spark status:
How like ourselves. Our bodies and our minds do take on damage over the years, but that doesn't mean we aren't worthy of restoration! That restoration could take many forms. It could involve medical treatment. Nourishing food in appropriate quantities. Gentle activity during recovery. More strenuous activity / training to serve a specific goal. But in the end, there may still be detectable scars, like those scratches.
And... it only makes each of us more precious, for the memories. We are strong. We are resilient. We are pioneers in our own lives, whatever those lives have brought us through. We have lessons we learned and lessons we can share.
This valentine's day, I'm sending love out to each and every Sparker and loved one... a reminder to live this one and only Friday, February 14, 2020 we'll ever get. Live it as best we can. Live it being kind to ourselves. Live it with an eye to restoring ourselves. Live it with love. For we are each and every one worth it!
