Celebrating Valentines Day by getting OUTSIDE!

Friday, February 14, 2020

I had thought today would be a treadmill day. It's one of those weird days were it's warmest early (REALLY early) and cools down all day, and it will be quite chilly at it's coldest. Plus it's windy, so...

But, at 7am, it was still 36 out and wind chill was in the mid 20s. So I decided to brave the elements and get outside for today's run. I dressed for the wind more than the actual temperature, so I was in the SERIOUS stuff (thick waterproof/windproof socks from Sealskinz, the puffy lobster [biking] gloves, warmest coldgear tights, 2 layers on top - including my water & wind resistant running anorak, warmest balaclava). I was actually a little OVER dressed, but I stayed quite comfortable - and I appreciated the overkill when I was hit by a wind gust.

Just get out turned into 5.5 miles. It was a bit sluggish, but that was more due to recovery from yesterday's hard workout, so I was fine with that.

And the hot shower afterward - and heat now - definitely felt good, though I'm still constantly second-guessing (is the water as hot as it should be? is the heat really still working?). I guess I will be until we know FOR SURE the water heating unit is fully operational (the heating & plumbing guy has reached out to the vendor so he'll have more knowledge & ideas if it does go wonky again). It was good timing to have it at least "working for now" again, though - today will be cold and tomorrow colder!

I have a haircut later and maybe I'll pick up some pastries and hot chocolate at the small French cafe next door to the hair salon, which is literally not much more than 1/2 block from me. It's a good day for a bit of hot indulgence! And now I can do the 'mill tomorrow with fresh legs and attitude since it won't be the 3rd day of it in a row.

Happy Valentines Day, Sparkland!
