Packing for South America & Back on Track

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

I am preparing for my South American trip, leaving here Feb. 23. There are 7 of us traveling together, starting with 9 days in Peru; then a 14 days cruise from Chile to Buenos Aires. Our last days will be in Brazil and Argentina. We are doing walking tours in various cities along the way.

I lost 40 pounds last year so I didn't have summer clothes that fit me. I've exhausted myself trying on all my clothes, shopping online (hate it!), then shopping in Canada and the US. The stores don't have much for summer clothes. On the cruise we are doing any time dining for dinner (smart casual), and there are 3 formal nights. The weather will range from 40F to 90F. I expect we will do laundry each week. I am unsure what to pack and how much.

We have been getting immunization shots and will get yellow fever this weekend. We have to fill our prescriptions for altitude sickness. I have food and environmental allergies and feel like a hypochondriac assembling Benadryl spray, Benadryl tablets, Gasex, pain meds, etc. plus my regular prescription meds.

I am making my diet and exercise plans for the trip.

1) no eating after dinner
2) buffet rules bit.ly/2uFjrHN
3) 6,000 steps a day
4) resistance band exercises for my back
5) aim for 8 hours sleep and an afternoon rest (when possible)

Our daughter and her family will be staying here to take care of our dogs. I want to leave the house spotless and depersonalized so there is room for their things and they are comfortable.

I struggled with my weight/eating since my friend was here for a week in mid-January. Despite this I was the TOPS big loser for January. This week I am back on track and the scale is moving in the right direction. I weigh in each morning and good or bad it keeps me focused. I will be away from my scale for 5 weeks and can't imagine how I will feel when I am not monitoring my weight daily. Maybe I can make room for it in my suitcase?
