Be Mine - Valentine?

Monday, February 10, 2020

It'll be here in just four days............. it's a Friday, and I'll be at work. One of the things I'll be doing that day is supporting someone to attend the local Slimming World group for a weigh-in and meeting. I like doing this shift, because I know that some of the other support workers find excuses NOT to take her to the SW meeting - they'd rather get in the car and go off to town to spend money and drink coffee. With me she gets 3 km walking done, and has a life-enhancing meet-up with other members of the Slimming World group, and we still get a coffee.

But that's not the point - the point, for me, is that I'll be at work on Valentine's Day. On the one hand, that means I'll be busy. On the other hand, there'll be a lot of talk about Valentine's Day at work!

As most of you know, I'm a member of the 100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle team - which addresses emotional eating habits. So, I've been reminded that the best way to handle Valentine's Day is to PLAN for it!

All the local cafes, pubs and restaurants have their special Valentine's menus on display. Going to eat on my own on Valentine's Day is not something I'd do - that would be TOOOOO uncomfortable! However, the Co-op has some heart-shaped crumpets - which would be a nice treat! I might choose to eat those - with Marmite (no sugar!)

After work I am going to go to the gym.......... which is a supreme act of self-care!

I've bought myself a 'rose and frankincense' bath bomb from the local natural cosmetic maker
Pure Enough Stuff - they are housed in an iconic building known at The Egyptian House!

And a pair of new pyjamas! I went to a proper 'outfitters' in town, and the only pair they had in my size was blue with little hearts on the material. Very cute 100% cotton.

So, the PJs and the bath bomb are in my drawer, ready for Friday, 14th.

I don't need chocolates or bubbly, or flowers, or cards.

My plan is to get tucked up in bed in my new PJs, to sip a cup of something nice (maybe hot chocolate, maybe just a tea) and feeling good about myself.

Have you got a plan for Friday, 14th?

Good plan for the holiday. The crumpets look good. I've only found crumpets in our market once.

Heart shaped crumpets! You are wise to take good care of yourself. And it's a lovely gesture to support someone at the Slimming World meeting.

Really just another day for me and it looks like I might spend a good part of it shovelling yet more snow. Might treat myself with a strawberry/rhubarb craft beer that I have had for some time. Enjoy your crumpets!

I will be spending Friday at a Science Fiction convention that is held here in the area Thursday through Sunday every February. It's always the second full weekend of the month and just happens to include Valentine's Day this year. Spending it with my "second family" works for me.

If I hadn't met a man who invited me to lunch today, I probably wouldn't have thought about it much. As it turns out, it became pretty obvious that neither of us were falling in love. It was a bit of relief with V day coming up not to be fretting over it. I sometimes actually feel worse when I try to do things for myself. But what I know I WON'T do is buy myself chocolates! I had done that so many years. Actually, the man who bought me chocolates most regularly in my life, almost until he died, was my father. Amazing because we weren't close and he wasn't usually thoughtful like that, but I guess that was his effort. I feel a little teary thinking of it. But still glad to let the chocolates go.

Thinking about it, I might get flowers.

My husband and I are going to a V-day dinner at a friend's church. It's a fundraiser for their youth group to pay for summer camp. I've gotten the menu from her, and it is all ok, other than the dessert. Dessert is not going to be anything fancy, so I'm planning to skip it. I plan to verbalize skipping it to my husband as we go.

Gill, I love your idea. I'm not easy to buy for, and gifts are not really my thing, so I probably won't receive anything beyond a card, if that. Going to the dinner was my idea. Ordinarily, it is just another day for us, other than the cards.

What a wonderful plan and I love your pyjamas!

No outright plans on Valentine's Day. But will pamper myself with a mani-pedi.
