2020 Day 6: Boing! And Thank You Jonathan Van Ness!

Tuesday, January 07, 2020

A blessed event happened last night. I slept. I slept well - for 7 hours!

It's amazing what a difference sleep makes. I feel like a spring that just bounced back into place. I was super productive, in a very positive place, got in all my protein and walked just over 15,000 steps today, which more than makes up for the steps I missed yesterday.

So what does this have to do with Jonathan Van Ness? Only everything. I follow him on Instagram. Yesterday he posted about something stressful, followed by him taking it all back by saying "savasana savasana savasana!" I had no idea what he was talking about, so I googled the word.

It means "corpse pose" and comes to us from yoga. It involves lying on your back and focusing on relaxing and healing your body. "Savasana relaxes and invigorates your body and mind. It also relieves pressure, anxiety and calms the mind." ( en.mimi.hu/yoga/
savasana.html
)

This sounded very good to me, so I did a search on YouTube to see how one goes about Savasana-ing and came upon a 20-minute guided meditation by someone called Ekaterina Petrovna. She has a very soothing voice and talked me through relaxing all of my major muscle groups and calming my mind.

I was asleep shortly after watching the video in bed on my iPad. If you are dealing with stress or anxiety, I cannot recommend doing this exercise, which you can find here:

In other news, today's Action for Happiness activity is to take 10 minutes just to sit and breathe. I'm going to do that right now, with the help of Ekaterina Petrovna.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!
