I walk, vent and write and never responded by breaking, throwing and destroying things. My daughter just called because her tv was not cooperating and took her fist to it. This is her 5th, and less than 2 weeks old. No tears, no remorse, no I’m sorry but “can you get me a new tv”. Of course we are not rushing out to get one and tomorrow is her payday and after paying expenses will need to save for her next one. We have paid thousands of dollars for therapy, hundreds on anger toys, tried medication and running out of options. Mall I get told is this is a common trait for mentally impaired individuals and the older they get the worse it gets. She is now 35 and a trail of 14 broken glasses since February, 80 phones in 5 years, countless watches, cd’s and players and only God knows everything else. Any advice???

Hubby would not replace them ... I probably would try to come up with something she really likes to offer her to look after her things. Two days and a coffee out, three days and go shopping. Break something and have to work it off .

You are amazing so I send you lots of hugs :)

Wow, no wonder she keeps destroying things, you reward her by replacing it over and over. Mentally impaired or not she would soon learn not to do that if you stopped buying it.

Oh how easy it is to give advice without being in your shoes. First of all, I wouldn't be able to afford replacing those things. So she'd be without them. Honestly, I really don't know what I'd do. I'm sure you're exhausted beyond words. In CA, folks like your daughter go through Dept. of Rehab and Human Services and are then referred to an agency that pays someone to provide living skills assistance at least part time. But we already know how much research you've done to find resources that don't exist where you are.
